5. Rottweiler

The Rottweiler is another breed with a very dangerous reputation. These dogs are built to be powerful and can become aggressive if they are not properly trained. While the Rottweiler may look scary, it’s actually known to be obedient, devoted and is very eager to work with its owner.

The breed possesses great herding and guarding instincts. The public’s negative view generally stems from owners who were irresponsible and caused serious behavior problems in their pets. They can also be very territorial, which means they are more likely to show signs of aggression when strangers are nearby.

Rottweilers are frequently used as guard dogs in film and media, which furthers their reputation as an imposing and dangerous breed. They are quite intimidating, with a muscular build and large size. The average female weighs between 77 and 105 pounds while males can reach between 110 and 132 pounds. That’s a lot of dog coming at a person should the Rottweiler decide to attack.

Unlike Pit Bulls and other fighting dogs, the Rottweiler was actually bred for herding and protection. Their history is believed to date as far back as Ancient Rome, where they may have descended from rugged drover dogs which were prized for their intelligence and guarding instinct.

One of the most dangerous characteristics of the Rottweiler is its strong biting ability. This breed can out-bite the Pit Bull in terms of force. The average Rottweiler can manage around 328 pounds of pressure when biting. To put that into perspective, the average adult person can produce around 120 pounds of bite force.

The good news is that despite its bad reputation, the Rottweiler is generally good natured, obedient and eager to work. When properly raised as a pup, this breed can serve as a helpful, confident companion. It’s good for protection but owners should still use caution when the dog is around children or strangers.

i think people who hate a certain type of dog breed need educating i have been round many of these dog breeds and there is nothing wrong with them a bad owner or an uneducated owner is the reason many of these dogs tend to be aggressive if you buy a dog research the breed you want to buy

The AKC encourages the breeding of aggressive Chows. I was walking around the show area at a Eukanuba show and a Chow attacked my Giant Schnauzer. Fortunately for the Chow my schnauzer did not engage. This was reportedly the ninth or tenth time this dog had attacked another dog at a show. I complained to an AKC board member and he said that the dog was banned. I was surprised to see that dog at the following Westminster show.

People react fearfully to Pitbulls because every other week someone gets mauled by them. I could have a pet Tiger or a Grizzly Bear and treat it perfectly, that doesn’t mean it won’t ripped some kids head off someday. A Pit Bull is the same thing, they really shouldn’t available to the public.

By far the most ignorant thing I have ever heard! The way you talk it could be the same about any dog whatsoever. If you had any knowledge on dog breeds and dog behavior you would know that any dog can be extremely aggressive or extremely passive depending on training and the blood line of that specific dog. Yes Pit’s are known to be aggressive but that’s because of the bad name dog fighters and idiot owners who know nothing about looking after a dog have given them. Please go find a brain before making such an ignorant comment.

Actually, you just made AJP’s point. Idiot owners, extremely idiot owners, love the idea of having a pit. They do not, for the large part, love the idea of properly training them. Why are 3/4s of the dogs at the shelter pits? Same with guns. If you are a careless idiot, you shouldn’t have one. Registration and background checks. And don’t go all 2nd amendment on me. I am the owner of several guns. But I think many people should not have one.

So ridiculous! I can’t believe in this day and age that people still believe the stereotypes of these beautiful breeds. I have an AmStaff/Pit mix and he is the sweetest dog ever. Everyone is a friend. I’m sick of people putting down my dog’s breed, and ANY of these breeds, without every meeting one. People are the ones who raise these breeds to be fighting dogs or aggressive. NO dog is naturally aggressive, just like a person isn’t naturally aggressive without being taught violence. People really need to stop being ignorant and read up on all dog breeds before being discriminatory. If it’s wrong to be prejudice against a skin color, then it’s wrong to do the same to a dog breed.
